Dog Training: Coronavirus/COVID-19 precautions.

Coronavirus/COVID 19 policies and procedures.

Clients must adhere to UK Government guidelines (UK Govt) for England and Bradford District Metropolitan Council guidelines, (BMDC) regarding Coronavirus/COVID-19.

Clear instructions will be provided to each handler in writing before arrival. This can be emailed prior to the lesson.

Our indoor courses are held in a Church Hall. Only a solo Handler per dog, and Clever K9s Staff will be present.

We are also developing outdoor training services that will be advertised soon. Inclement weather may mean that we all have to be flexible with these sessions.

If you are unwell or showing COVID symptoms you must not come to class. If this occurs after you have attended a class you must let us know.

Handlers are advised that attending classes is at their own risk and they will be required to follow strict social distancing measures when entering the premises and during each session.

Those attending training classes must follow directives given by Clever K9 staff. This may differ from previous class guidance as circumstances may change. Handlers are advised that training class times and content may change due to current social distancing measures.

The class members must give the Trainer their attention, and support to safely control the class whilst also teaching. This is vital for the safe participation of everyone taking part.

Paperwork could be emailed to dog owners prior to the class. Any paperwork given out should be prepared at least 72 hours in advance and put into a bag or box ready to take to class. The class instructor should wear gloves when handing out paperwork or sanitise hands before and after.

Currently if you are attending a class/service;

The training plan has been adapted to enable social distancing measures.

All present must accept that class members may be engrossed in engaging with their dogs and may sometimes forget to space themselves appropriately. We all must take care of this and pro-actively make allowances for each other, give space, and use gentle reminders such as “check space”.

  • Maintain a minimum two metre distance at all times. Please keep checking that you are maintaining this distance.
  • Take care that your lead length is not allowing your dog to get close to other handlers. There must be constant awareness of inadvertent unwanted contact between dogs.
  • Currently Face masks or visors are required. However, there are valid exemptions for some individuals and groups to not wear a face covering;
    • Class instructor – whilst delivering course content only. In line with COVID-19 Secure guidelines.
    • All staff – if you are speaking to or providing assistance to someone who relies on lip reading, clear sound or facial expressions to communicate.
    • Clients with a valid exemption.
  • Sanitizer will be available.
  • Hands should be sanitised on entering and leaving the venue.
  • Only one person from a dog’s household to enter the premises.
  • When waiting to enter the premises keep well back from the entrance to maintain the required social distance. This is to avoid crowding and close encounters.
  • Please minimise contact with any items in the training room.
  • We will clean frequently touched surfaces between classes.

Meeting outside;

  • Training Walks with the dog owner present can be carried out in a suitable local outdoor environment. Human members of the dogs household may also attend. The total of persons present, including Clever K9s staff, must not exceed six.
  • Household members and Clever K9s staff must keep two metres or three large steps away from each other.
  • Hands should be sanitised before, as needed during and, after the training walk.
